چکیده

The thermoelectric transfer difference of Thermal Converters (TCs) can be evaluated in both current mode and voltage mode, using a fast-reversed dc (FRDC) source. Some types of TCs show differences in the thermoelectric transfer difference between voltage and current mode as large as some parts in 10. In order to investigate the origin of the discrepancy, the change of the thermoelectric transfer difference with the value of a resistor in series to the thermal converter has been measured. The result was in good agreement with an assumption that the Seebeck effect in the heater/heater support junction is the main source of the voltage transfer difference. Index Terms -AC-DC difference, ac-dc transfer, thermoelectric effects, thermal converter, Seebeck effect.

Improvements in the Nist Calibration Service for Thermal Transfer Standards

We report on multiple improvements made in the calibration services offered for thermal converters and thermal transfer standards in the ac-dc Difference Standards and Measurement Techniques Project at NIST during the past year. The major improvement in this calibration is the increased efficiency made possible by the consolidation of three disparate calibration services – low voltage thermal t...

Development of a High-precision Ac-dc Transfer Standard Using the Fast-reversed Dc Method

The ac-dc transfer standard is one of the basic electrical standards, by which the ac voltage and ac current are deduced from their dc counterparts in the frequency range between 10 Hz and 1 MHz [1,2]. The dc voltage standards are established using a Josephson voltage standard with uncertainty better than 10-7 [3-5]. The ac voltage standard in the frequency range 10 Hz to 1 MHz are derived from...

A new binary inductive divider comparator system for measuring high-voltage thermal converters

National Measurement Institutes have traditionally used bootstrapping or build-up techniques to determine the ac-dc difference of high-voltage thermal converters (HVTCs) in terms of the ac-dc difference of lower-voltage converters. We describe a method of determining the ac-dc difference of HVTCs that is independent of the build-up process. A description of the system and technique is given and...

Application of a Calorimetric Thermal Converter as a Standard of Ac-dc Voltage and Current Transfer Difference

At the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) the primary standard of AC-DC transfer difference at frequencies from 10 kHz to 100 MHz is a Calorimetric Thermal Voltage Converter (CTVC). Because of a simple design, not unlike a coaxial calorimeter for RF power measurements, its frequency characteristic can be estimated theoretically from a number of mechanical and electrical parameters. An in...

Thermal Converters as AC-DC Transfer Standards for Current and Voltage Measurements at Audio Frequencies

Thermal converters and associated equipment that are used as ac-dc transfer standards at the National Bureau of Standards for the precise measurement of current and voltage at power and audio frequencies are described. The standards and the equipment are primarily used to standardize a-c ammeters and voltmeters submitted to the Bureau for certification. The ac-dc transfer may be made with these...
